Created in April 2015 by Benjamin Charbit, former Ubisoft Director, Darewise Entertainment’s business model is inspired from the movie production industry. Darewise aspires to create ambitious game concepts, identify powerful studios and partner with them while sponsoring the development. Depending of the type of project, Darewise Entertainment will also self-publish and promote them.
Whereas publishers not always owns the IP and the creative vision of the game they are putting on the market, Darewise will be at the starting point of all that. In addition, we are less interesting in a work-for-hire model. We really are looking to build partnership with the studios, providing them a more interesting royalties program and being very much involved in the daily development work. In addition publishing means lots of marketing and manufacturing efforts. We are not meant to publish all of our production. We will sometimes self-publish, as we are doing for Rokh in the Westerns market, but if a major publisher is interesting in publishing Rokh with us, we will definitely look into it.How Darewise Entertainment is born?
Our first idea was to create a full development studio. We had been working on Rokh’s concept for a while and we thought we will create it ourselves. But we faced a big challenge to recruit senior talent with expertise in systemic design and online world programing. Many people were super excited by the project but not willing to move and join a new Studio in France. Something even with a significant salary raise. Could we realize this game without a full team? We looked around what other were doing in gaming but also in other industries. Movie production analysis showed us that executive production creates the project, owned the IP and creative vision, identify the teams to realize it and are responsible for funding the project. Darewise Entertainment was born! We will be an executive gaming production company. We had the idea and creative pitch, we knew investors from our personal network (we had yet to convince them to jump in). We had to identify the best team to develop the game. We realized there are lot a very talented teams and studios available out there. We identified some that fit Rokh creative vision needs (MMO expertise, systemic designs, and online tech experts) and Nvizzio Creations embarked with us. They were extremely positive with the project and willing to develop it in a true partnership, not just in a work for hire model. The development started in September, couple of month after we first got in touch. Today, we already working on 2 new concepts which developments’ kickoff will be in 2016.
